A typical challenge in dealing with goals and states is that they are often linked in an unfavorable way: "When I have achieved my goal XYZ, then I am ABC". Ideally, goal achievement triggers a positive state, at least in the short term. Little attention often finds that I can go with practice into each state in principle at any time. This is a freedom that every human being has and that cannot be taken away.

This realization allows me to deal differently with the environment, i.e. to react differently to circumstances that are beyond my control.
